Repair Specialist
Gabriela Brunschwiler worked at Comox Valley Kayaks & Canoes from 2011 to 2016 as a front line staff member, instructor and boat repair expert. In the latter role she was responsible for the maintenance of one of the largest and best cared for small watercraft rental fleets on Vancouver Island.
In addition to her in-depth knowledge of and work with small craft, Gabriela has a background as a journeyman cabinet-maker. Her fouryear apprenticeship in Switzerland and more than 20 years in the trade reinforced her attention to detail and continuously expanded her problem-solving skills.
Paddler
When Gabriela moved to the Comox Valley from Switzerland, she discovered sea kayaking and jumped in with both feet! An outdoors person and nature lover, she is fascinated by the full range of paddle sports and it was only a matter of time before she added Greenland paddling and kayak rolling to her skill set. Some people say that she spends as much time upside down as she does right side up in her kayaks.
More recently Gabriela has also embarked on the journey of classic Canadian open boat single blade paddling (aka canoeing), which she fully enjoys right side up.
Gabriela is excited to offer her extensive expertise in all things paddling under her own brand – Wavedancer Premium Small Boat Repair. She is looking forward to getting you back on the water.
Being as passionate about woodworking as she is about paddling, Gabriela is also as the craftsperson behind Machaon Wood Creations. She’s proud to offer personalized wooden Greenland Paddles, one of a kind canoe paddles and custom woodwork.
